Success Story -2-17-24

One of our MCREA members was being unlawfully evicted because the apartment building she lived in was being sold. She received an eviction notice with no provision for the $25,000 required by law. Because of her relationship with another MCREA member, she was referred to the City of Los Angeles Housing Department. Member was given time to find another apartment and she received the $25,000 relocation allowance.

The member’s recommendation is that tenants facing a no-fault eviction;  go directly, in person, to the Los Angeles Housing Department to get assistance and direction. There is now a Housing Department office at 8475 S Vermont (closed on Fridays). The eviction paperwork has to be submitted by the owner to the Housing Department for approval before sending an eviction notice to the tenant.
